 Vintage Jazz Guitars
& Tenor Banjos

consists of top quality Gibson electric and acoustic archtop guitars and Gibson four string tenor banjos for that authentic New Orleans/Chicago style jazz, hot club jazz from the 1920's, 30's 40's, 50's, as well as jazz, pop, western swing, country and ethnic music . These are complete samples, every note was sample recorded in every manner playable. There is no looping or pitch shifting.

An individual jazz guitar can be made to sound many different ways, depending on different guitar amps and EQ settings. The variation of sound that can be achieved with these samples is quiet dramatic with different EQ settings and/or guitar amp simulator plug-ins. Every musician has their signature sound based on their preferred EQ settings and/or guitar amp of choice.

The electric archtop jazz guitar samples were sample recorded from an acoustic Gibson archtop jazz guitar with a vintage floating DeArmond pickup in the neck position, which was plugged directly into an Avalon M5 DI/preamp. This particular type of electric jazz guitar setup and sound is much more preferable than jazz guitars that have their hand carved solid spruce tops cut and butchered in order to mount pickups. By using a floating pickup in the neck position on an archtop jazz guitar where the top has not been cut and butchered, the solid wood top is able to vibrate and resonate completely, thus producing a much more of a "raw" and beautiful sounding jazz guitar. With this method of sample recording an electric guitar, the recordings are transparent with no guitar amp coloration or EQ, which makes these samples much more suitable for EQ and/or guitar amp simulator processing with plug-ins. The processing possibilities of these samples are unlimited.

Each and every note on all of these instruments in the "Vintage Jazz Guitars and Tenor Banjos" collections were sample recorded at all velocity levels and with no pitch shifting of any notes. There are also release samples on all of these instruments, which capture the sound of the finger coming off of the finger board that really adds a great deal to these sampled instruments. All of the instruments in this collection were sample recorded with both a pick and a thumb on all notes and at all velocity levels and release sample note off articulations.

There is quiet a variety of sounds in this collection, including acoustic archtop jazz guitars as well, in addition to the Gibson tenor banjos. I am sure you will find all of these sampled instruments to be most useful for many different applications and music styles.
